Students will be paid $18/hr (subject to standard payroll tax) and will likely log 400-500 hours throughout the program.
All locations will have established housing which may vary between on-site, off-site, in-home with mentors, etc. A travel stipend (up to $1000 per student) will be available to help with additional transportation and meal expenses.
For 2026, there will be three students selected for the HVP Summer Internship Program.
Official dates for the 9-week program are June 1 – July 31, 2026. It’s preferred that all students complete the session at the same time, however, minor accommodations may be possible if there are personal conflicts (e.g. family events, weddings, etc).

The goal is for each student to visit 3 locations, in 3-week blocks. There may be slight adjustments depending on specific DVM availability.
The HVP Summer Internship Team will match students with mentors based on mutual learning objectives, skillset, and calendar availability.
Each student will prepare a case report based on something they were involved in during the program. The reports will be presented at a virtual case-rounds (mid-August) attended by Heritage veterinarians. Throughout the program, students will meet with members of the HVP Summer Internship team (and each other) to review case selection and preparation. Additional guidance will also be provided to any student who wishes to submit their case report at a campus or industry event (e.g. AABP Annual Conference).
at this time, participants must be enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary school and be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
